Vegan and Vegetarian Michelin Star Restaurants

Updated October 9, 2026 · Star counts and prices checked October 2026

Illustration of a fine-dining table seen from above, with a plated course of roasted beetroot and heirloom carrot, garden peas, radishes, a glass of white wine and a paper bill beneath three gold stars.

32 Michelin-starred restaurants serve no meat or fish, 12 of them fully vegan or plant-based, from Arpège in Paris, the only one with three stars, to Plates London. Far more will cook for you: 813 starred restaurants offer a vegetarian tasting menu, and 1,182 list vegan options.

That makes vegetarian and vegan Michelin star restaurants easier to find than their small number suggests. Below is every meat-free restaurant with a Michelin star, with its price, then the cities and three-star restaurants with the most vegetarian menus, a full list for London, and what the MICHELIN Guide’s diet labels promise. Every figure comes from the current guide editions, checked October 2026.

Every vegan and vegetarian Michelin star restaurant

The 32 meat-free restaurants with a star are spread over 15 countries: 1 three-star, 5 two-star and 26 one-star. Switzerland, China and the United States have four each. In Switzerland they are OZ, ZOE, Neue Taverne and KLE; in China, King’s Joy and Lamdre in Beijing and Fu He Hui in Shanghai hold two stars each and draw on the country’s Buddhist vegetarian cooking. Italy and Germany have three, among them Joia in Milan and Davide Guidara’s two-star I Tenerumi on the island of Vulcano.

About a third are fully vegan. Seven Swans in Frankfurt, Bonvivant in Berlin, KLE in Zurich, JOLA in Vienna, Légume in Seoul, Fabrik in Austin and Plates London cook without any animal products at all, and so do the plant-based De Nieuwe Winkel in Nijmegen, Fields by René Mathieu in Luxembourg and MITA in Washington, DC. The vegetarian ones may use dairy and eggs, though most will make their menu vegan with notice.

Starred restaurants that serve no meat or fish: those the MICHELIN Guide lists under a vegetarian or vegan cuisine, plus Arpège and De Nieuwe Winkel, which went plant-based without the guide changing their label. We leave out Choux and Bolenius in Amsterdam, which the guide files as vegetarian but which serve some meat or fish. Most stars first, then by country. Names open each restaurant’s prices on The Starred Bill and arrows its MICHELIN Guide page. Prices are the main dinner tasting menu per person in local currency, before service and drinks, with US dollars at recent exchange rates; mainland China’s are typical spends. Last checked October 2026.

Is there a three-Michelin-star vegan restaurant?

Yes, almost. Alain Passard’s Arpège in Paris, which has held three stars since 1996, has cooked only plants since 21 July 2025: vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers, many from its own gardens, with honey from its hives the one animal product left. Its dinner menu, Cuisine de la Terre, costs €380 (about $430) and lunch €260 (about $295), both with service included, according to the restaurant’s own menus.

Eleven Madison Park in New York held three stars as a fully vegan restaurant from its reopening in 2021 until October 2025, when Daniel Humm put a few meat and seafood dishes back on the menu. The tasting menu is still mostly plant-based, and a fully vegan version is still offered, at US$385. No other vegetarian restaurant has three stars today: the two-star King’s Joy, Fu He Hui, Lamdre, I Tenerumi and De Nieuwe Winkel come closest.

The first vegetarian and vegan restaurants to win a star

Joia in Milan was the first vegetarian restaurant in Europe to win a Michelin star, in 1996, and still holds it, now under Sauro Ricci and Raffaele Minghini after founder Pietro Leemann stepped back in 2024. The first fully vegan star is disputed. Seven Swans in Frankfurt already held a star as a vegetarian restaurant when chef Ricky Saward made its menu fully vegan at the end of 2019, and has kept it since. In January 2021 Claire Vallée’s ONA, near Bordeaux, became the first vegan restaurant in France to win one; it closed in 2022.

Several have followed. Plates London, Kirk Haworth’s 25-seat dining room in Shoreditch, became the first vegan restaurant in Britain with a star in February 2025, and Légume in Seoul the first in Asia, according to the MICHELIN Guide. Bonvivant in Berlin went fully vegan in early 2026, and the newest, Fabrik in Austin, won its star in the Texas guide revealed on 8 October 2026.

Michelin star vegetarian restaurants in London

Among Michelin star vegan restaurants, London has just one: Plates London in Shoreditch, whose ten-course discovery menu costs £125 (about $165). It is the place to go if you want a meal with no animal products and no adjustments. For everything else, 33 of London’s 84 starred restaurants offer a vegetarian tasting menu and 42 list vegan options, so 55 in all can feed you well.

Four of London’s three-star restaurants have a vegetarian tasting menu: Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, which also lists vegan options, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and Sketch’s Lecture Room and Library. CORE by Clare Smyth lists vegan options. For less, London’s Indian restaurants are hard to beat for vegetarians: Amaya’s tasting menu costs £75 (about $100) and its set lunch £32 (about $40), and Trishna, Gymkhana, Benares, Quilon and Jamavar all have vegetarian tasting menus. Our London Michelin star restaurants page has every one’s prices.

Where to find the most vegetarian tasting menus

London has the most starred restaurants with a vegetarian menu, ahead of Paris and Hong Kong. Berlin is the easiest city of all for vegetarians, though: 14 of its 19 starred restaurants offer one, and two serve no meat at all. Munich, Zurich and Frankfurt offer one at about half their starred restaurants, while Tokyo, with more starred restaurants than any other city, has only a handful.

Three-star restaurants the MICHELIN Guide lists with a vegetarian menu, by country. The price is the main dinner tasting menu per person in local currency, before service and drinks; a vegetarian menu usually costs the same or a little less. Last checked October 2026.

What the MICHELIN Guide’s vegetarian and vegan labels mean

The MICHELIN Guide lists special diets on each restaurant’s page and in its search filters, as each restaurant reports them. “Vegetarian menu” means a separate vegetarian tasting menu, which 813 starred restaurants offer (21%). “Vegan options” (1,182, or 30%) and “Vegetarian options” (2,657, or 68%) mean the kitchen can adapt dishes, usually with notice. Fully meat-free restaurants are filed under a vegetarian or vegan cuisine instead.

Say so when you book, not when you sit down: a tasting menu is planned days ahead. If you’re vegan, ask about butter, cream, eggs, honey and fish or meat stocks, which turn up in dishes that look like vegetables. The same goes for halal options and kosher ones: the labels describe what a restaurant says it can do, not a certificate.

How much does a vegan Michelin star meal cost?

The cheapest meat-free starred tasting menus cost €85 (about $95), at Racines – Bruno Cirino in Nice and at Fields by René Mathieu in Luxembourg; Mi Xun Teahouse in Chengdu is cheaper still, at a typical spend of CN¥235 (about $35). Most cost between $150 and $250 before drinks. A vegetarian menu at a restaurant that also serves meat usually costs the same as the main one or a little less, and set lunches cost less again: our guide to the cheapest Michelin star restaurants lists the lowest prices everywhere.
