Halal at a Michelin-starred restaurant in London usually means one of its Indian dining rooms. Benares, Trishna, Veeraswamy and Ambassadors Clubhouse say their chicken and lamb are halal, and Gymkhana’s are reported to be too. Worldwide, the MICHELIN Guide lists 369 starred restaurants with “Halal options”, mostly on request.

None of the five is halal in every respect: all of them serve alcohol, and most say only their chicken and lamb are halal. Below is what each one says, what the guide’s “Halal options” tag does and doesn’t promise for a Michelin star meal, and the picture in Singapore and the Gulf, checked against the halal authorities’ own registers where they publish one.

Halal Michelin star restaurants in London

Five of London’s 84 starred restaurants are clearest about halal meat. All are Indian, and all are in the West End:

Lists of Michelin star halal restaurants in London often count every restaurant the guide tags. It lists “Halal options” at 19 of them, these five included. At the rest, among them the three-star Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, halal dishes are prepared on request: say so when you book and ask what the kitchen can do. Our London Michelin star restaurants page has every one’s prices.

Restaurants the MICHELIN Guide lists with “halal”, as each restaurant reports them: dishes it can prepare, usually on request, not halal certification. Ask when you book, and give as much notice as you can. Names open each restaurant’s prices on The Starred Bill and arrows its MICHELIN Guide page. Prices per person before service and drinks; lunch is the cheapest set lunch, where there is one. Last checked October 2026.

Elsewhere among the halal Michelin star restaurants in the UK, Aktar Islam’s two-star Opheem in Birmingham lists halal options, and Cedar Tree by Hrishikesh Desai in Cumbria asks for at least two weeks’ notice, according to Hyphen.

What “Halal options” means in the MICHELIN Guide

The guide’s restaurant pages and search filters list special diets, and “Halal options” is one of them. It records what a restaurant tells the guide it can serve; it is not halal certification. 369 of the world’s 3,882 starred restaurants carry it, about 10%, including Per Se and Le Bernardin in New York.

Certification means an independent body has checked how the meat was slaughtered and supplied, and how the kitchen handles it. In the UK the best-known bodies are the Halal Monitoring Committee, which publishes a list of the outlets it certifies, and the Halal Food Authority; in Singapore it is MUIS, and in Malaysia JAKIM. Several London restaurants above say their meat is halal-certified: that is the meat, not the restaurant. Ask about alcohol in sauces and desserts, gelatine and shared grills if those matter to you.

Halal Michelin star restaurants in Singapore

None of Singapore’s 45 starred restaurants holds halal certification from MUIS, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore: we checked each one against MUIS’s register of halal establishments on 7 October 2026. The MICHELIN Guide lists halal options at none of them either.

The Bib Gourmand list, the guide’s good-value picks, has no certified stall either. Several Bib Gourmands cook from Malay and South Asian kitchens, among them Bismillah Biryani in Little India, Kitchenman Nasi Lemak, Delhi Lahori, and Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari and Bahrakath Mutton Soup at Adam Road Food Centre, but none appears on the register.

Two places the guide recommends without a star or Bib Gourmand are certified: Tambuah Mas, an Indonesian restaurant at Paragon on Orchard Road (MUIS certificate EERN21010011979), and Springleaf Prata Place at Springleaf Garden (EERN21060012497). Search either name on the register to check its certificate is still current. Our Singapore Michelin star restaurants page lists every starred table in the city with its prices.

Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha

In the Gulf, the guide lists halal options at 13 starred restaurants in Dubai, among them the three-star Trèsind Studio and FZN by Björn Frantzén, 3 in Abu Dhabi and 3 in Doha. Many are in hotels with bars, so the same questions about alcohol in the cooking apply.

Restaurants the MICHELIN Guide lists with “halal”, as each restaurant reports them: dishes it can prepare, usually on request, not halal certification. How to book a halal meal at a starred restaurant

  1. Ask when you book, not at the table. Find out which meats are halal, and who certifies them.
  2. Ask about alcohol in the cooking. Wine sauces, mirin and desserts are the usual places it hides.
  3. Give plenty of notice. Kitchens that order halal meat in need time: Cedar Tree asks for two weeks, so a week ahead is a sensible minimum elsewhere.
  4. Ask about the menu. Some dishes may be swapped once the tasting menu is made halal, so check what you’ll be served and whether the price changes.

Jewish diners face the same gap between a guide’s tag and a certificate, which our guide to kosher Michelin star restaurants explains, along with the one kosher restaurant that holds a star.

Frequently asked questions

Are there halal Michelin star restaurants in London?

Several starred restaurants serve halal meat. Benares, Trishna, Veeraswamy and Ambassadors Clubhouse say their chicken and lamb are halal, and Gymkhana’s chicken, lamb and goat are reported to be. All are Indian, and all serve alcohol.

Is Gymkhana halal?

Its chicken, lamb and goat are halal, Hyphen reported in 2024, but the two-star restaurant serves alcohol and its website doesn’t describe it as halal. Ask when you book.

Are there halal Michelin star restaurants in Singapore?

Not certified ones. None of Singapore’s starred restaurants or Bib Gourmand stalls was on MUIS’s halal register when we checked on 7 October 2026. Tambuah Mas and Springleaf Prata Place, both recommended by the guide without a star, are certified.

Does “Halal options” in the MICHELIN Guide mean a restaurant is halal?

No. It means the restaurant says it can offer halal dishes, often on request. Certification comes from a halal authority, such as the Halal Monitoring Committee in the UK or MUIS in Singapore, which publish the places they certify.

How many Michelin star restaurants offer halal options?

369 in 38 countries, as of October 2026: 19 three-star, 47 two-star and 303 one-star restaurants. London has 19 and Dubai 13.
