New stars
Australia wins its first Michelin stars, all in South Australia
· The Starred Bill

Australia has its first Michelin stars. The first MICHELIN Guide South Australia, revealed at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 14 October 2026, gave two stars to Magill Estate Restaurant, Penfolds’ dining room in Adelaide’s eastern foothills, and one star to ten more restaurants in Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills and the state’s wine regions.
Magill Estate Restaurant, Australia’s first two-star
Chef Scott Huggins cooks at Magill Estate Restaurant, beside the vineyard where Penfolds began. Its full tasting experience costs A$375 (about $265) per person, with a sommelier’s wine pairing at A$260 (about $185), and a shorter Signature Menu is A$295, also served at weekend lunch.
The ten one-star restaurants
Four are in and around the city, where dinner costs A$330 (about $230) at Restaurant Botanic in the Botanic Garden, A$130 (about $90) at Aurora at ILA on Light Square, A$135 (about $95) at Esmay in Hackney and from A$165 (about $115) at arkhé in Norwood. Six are country kitchens, three of them open only at lunch: Aptos in Stirling, the dearest in the state at A$495 (about $345) for 16 courses, LVN Restaurant at Bird in Hand in Woodside, Hentley Farm in the Barossa, Maxwell Restaurant in McLaren Vale, Anvers at Kangarilla and Skillogalee Barrel House in the Clare Valley, whose two-course lunch at A$59 (about $40) is the cheapest Michelin-starred meal in the country.
The rest of the selection
The guide lists 77 restaurants in all: the 11 with stars, 16 with a Bib Gourmand, among them Africola and Parwana Afghan Kitchen in Adelaide, and 50 MICHELIN Selected. Shakaan Abillion of Shōbōsho won the Young Chef Award, Melissa Pisanelli of Allegra Dining Room the Service Award and Maxime Martin of Hardy’s Verandah the Sommelier Award.
Why Sydney and Melbourne have none
The guide covers South Australia only, so Sydney and Melbourne are still without a star; our guide to Michelin star restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne explains why. Every starred restaurant in the state, with dinner, lunch and wine pairing prices, is on our South Australia Michelin star restaurants page, and Adelaide’s five are on its Adelaide page.
