Spain’s starred restaurants with rooms come in two kinds. In the cities and on the islands they are mostly in big hotels, from Barcelona’s design hotels to the resorts of Costa Adeje in Tenerife, where six of them are. In the country they are family houses: farmhouse inns in Catalonia, a mountain hospedería in Teruel, a converted mill in Guadalajara, wine-estate hotels in the Duero valley. Fewer of them publish a price for dinner and a room together than in France or the Netherlands, but those that do sell it as an “escapada gastronómica”. The tables below give, for each restaurant, its hotel or rooms, the lowest room price it publishes and its cheapest stay with dinner, all from its own or its hotel’s website. Prices include VAT and change with the date; the tourist tax in Catalonia, the Balearics and the Basque Country is added on top. How much is a gastronomic getaway at a Michelin star restaurant in Spain?
9 of the 67 publish a price for a stay with dinner. For one night for two, with the tasting menu and breakfast, most cost between €400 and €800 (about $450 to $905). The least expensive are the Catalan country inns: La Fonda Xesc at €300 for two and Els Casals from about €400. Hospedería El Batán in Teruel sells half board with its tasting menu from €455 for two, El Molino de Alcuneza near Sigüenza from €605 with a bottle of wine, and El Portal de Echaurren in La Rioja from €590. At the top, Abadía Retuerta’s Escapada Gourmet starts at €1,025 for two with dinner at Refectorio and lunch the next day.
Check three things before you book. First, the days: many restaurants open only from Thursday or Wednesday to Sunday, and the packages follow. Second, how the price is given: some Catalan inns price per person, so double it for the bill. Third, the table: at a few hotels, such as Casa Arcas in Villanova in the Pyrenees, a room doesn’t come with a table, so book both.
What is the cheapest Michelin star restaurant with rooms in Spain?
For a night with dinner included, La Fonda Xesc in the Pyrenean foothills of Girona, at €300 for two with the tasting menu and breakfast. For the room alone, Casa Rubén’s rural apartments near Tella in Huesca start at €60 a night, and Versátil’s apartments next to the restaurant in Zarza de Granadilla at €75. A set lunch is the other cheap way in: see our cheapest Michelin star meals.
How to book a stay at a Michelin star restaurant in Spain
Book the room on the hotel’s or restaurant’s own website, or by email or phone where it says so: several small inns, Regueiro and La Revelía among them, take room bookings only that way. Deliranto in Salou sells “gastronomic rooms” at its hotel that guarantee a table more than three months ahead, a useful way in when the restaurant itself is full. In summer, book the island and coast hotels well ahead, and check the seasons: some close for the winter.
