Which Celebrity Chefs Have Michelin Stars?
Updated 7 October 2026 · Star counts and prices checked October 2026

Yes. Prue Leith’s restaurant, Leith’s in Notting Hill, held a Michelin star before she sold it in 1995. Among TV chefs today, Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants hold the most: 9 stars across 6 restaurants in the 2026 MICHELIN Guides, ahead of Heston Blumenthal’s 6.
A star belongs to a restaurant, not its chef, and a famous name over the door doesn’t mean the famous chef is at the stove. Below are the stars held today by restaurants that carry a TV chef’s name or that they run, with the cheapest way to eat at each, then the well-known chefs whose stars have gone. For every chef’s total, on screen or not, see who has the most Michelin stars.

Did Prue Leith have a Michelin star?
Yes. Prue Leith opened Leith’s at 92 Kensington Park Road in Notting Hill in 1969, and it went on to win a Michelin star (Restaurant Online). She has said the star “took a very long time to get” (Mashed), and published accounts don’t give the year it came. She sold Leith’s in 1995, after which it became a local brasserie.
By then she had also founded Leiths School of Food and Wine, in 1975, and she joined The Great British Bake Off as a judge in 2017, replacing Mary Berry (Wikipedia). Her old dining room has a happy sequel: CORE by Clare Smyth opened at the same address in 2017 and won three stars in 2021, making Smyth the first British woman to hold three (IBTimes). Dinner there costs £275 (about $365); our page of Michelin star restaurants in London has the prices for all the others.
How many Michelin stars does Gordon Ramsay have?
Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants hold 9 Michelin stars across 6 restaurants in the 2026 guides: four in London, one in Bordeaux and one at the Trianon Palace in Versailles. Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea has held three since 2001, when he became the first Scottish-born chef to win three, and his restaurants have won 17 stars over his career (Fine Dining Lovers). The newest is Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, on the 60th floor of 22 Bishopsgate in the City, starred in February 2026.
Not all the Gordon Ramsay Michelin stars have lasted: Gordon Ramsay at The London in New York lost both of its stars in 2013. And he doesn’t cook in his restaurants day to day. Kim Ratcharoen leads the kitchen in Chelsea, where dinner costs £210 (about $275). The cheapest way in is the weekday lunch at Pétrus in Belgravia, from £59 (about $80).
How many Michelin stars does Heston Blumenthal have?
His restaurants hold 6 stars across 3 restaurants. The Heston Blumenthal Michelin stars began at The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, which holds three; Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge holds two, and its sister in Dubai one. Bray is the only village in Britain with two three-star restaurants, as the Roux family’s Waterside Inn is a few minutes’ walk from The Fat Duck. Dinner at The Fat Duck costs £285 (about $375), and at Dinner in London £195 (about $260).
Other TV chefs with Michelin stars
Tom Kerridge’s Hand and Flowers in Marlow became the first pub to hold two Michelin stars, in 2012 (Decanter), and still does; its set lunch costs £45 (about $60). Other familiar faces from British cookery shows hold a star or two: Michael Caines at Lympstone Manor in Devon and at The Stafford in London, Angela Hartnett at Murano in Mayfair, Paul Ainsworth in Padstow, Tommy Banks at the Black Swan in Oldstead, and Jason Atherton at Row on 45 in Dubai.
In America, José Andrés holds 3 stars, two at minibar in Washington and one at é by José Andrés in Las Vegas, where dinner at minibar costs US$375. Wolfgang Puck’s one star is at CUT in Singapore.
Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen: South Africa’s Michelin star chef
In 2016 Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen became the first South African chef to win a Michelin star, for JAN, his restaurant in Nice’s old port quarter (TimesLIVE). JAN still holds it in 2026. His tasting menu carries South African flavours, from mosbolletjies bread to biltong, and costs €195 (about $220). He had to leave home to win one: there are no Michelin star restaurants in South Africa, as the guide doesn’t cover Africa. With Prue Leith, who was born in Cape Town, he is one of the two best-known South African Michelin star chefs.
Famous chefs whose stars have gone
- Prue Leith: Michelin star at Leith’s in Notting Hill, the restaurant she ran from 1969 until she sold it in 1995.
- Marco Pierre White: Michelin stars won young, as the youngest three-star chef of his day at 33 in 1995, then all handed back in 1999 (Fine Dining Lovers).
- Michel Roux Jr: Le Gavroche in Mayfair became the first UK restaurant with three stars in 1982, under his father, Albert Roux, and still held two when he closed it on 13 January 2024 (Wikipedia).
- Raymond Blanc: Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire held two stars for four decades. It closed in January 2026 for an 18-month rebuild, so it is out of the 2026 guide, and Blanc returns as its ambassador rather than its chef (The Staff Canteen).
Which TV chefs don’t have a Michelin star?
None of these chefs has a restaurant with a star in the 2026 guides: Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein, James Martin, John Torode, Matt Tebbutt, Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti, Anna Haugh and, in America, Bobby Flay. Padstow’s starred restaurant is Paul Ainsworth at No.6 rather than Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant. Several of these chefs trained in starred kitchens or ran them in the past, but a star stays with the restaurant that earned it. Vikas Khanna, the Indian chef and MasterChef India judge, is covered with the other Indian chefs with Michelin stars.
