London has 8 Michelin-starred Indian restaurants in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide, more than any other city in the world. Gymkhana in Mayfair holds two stars; Amaya, Ambassadors Clubhouse, Benares, Jamavar, Quilon, Trishna and Veeraswamy hold one each. Set lunches start at about £32 a head.

London is where Indian cooking first won Michelin stars: Tamarind and Zaika both earned one in 2001. A quarter of a century later the city’s starred Indian restaurants range from a 1926 institution on Regent Street to tasting-menu dining rooms in Mayfair. Here they all are, with what they cost.

The restaurants

Gymkhana ★★

London’s only two-star Indian restaurant. The Sethi family’s Mayfair dining room is modelled on the members’ clubs of the Raj, with dark wood, brass and leather banquettes, and the menu leans towards North Indian game, kebabs and biryani. Dinner: £155 (about $205) for the tasting menu. Lunch: £60 (about $80) (lunch menu, 4 courses).

Amaya ★

A Belgravia grill restaurant where most dishes come from the open kitchen’s tandoor, sigri charcoal grill and tawa griddle, served as small plates. Dinner: £75 (about $100) for the tasting menu. Lunch: £32 (about $40) (lunch platte).

Ambassadors Clubhouse ★

The Sethi family’s Mayfair restaurant celebrates Punjabi cooking from both sides of the border, in a dining room styled on a grand clubhouse. Dinner: £100 (about $130) for the feast menu. Lunch: £36 (about $50) (set lunch, 2 or 3 courses, from · daily).

Benares ★

A Berkeley Square favourite since 2003, where chef Sameer Taneja cooks modern Indian dishes built on British produce. Dinner: £135 (about $180) for the tasting menu. Lunch: £43 (about $55) (set lunch, 2 courses).

Jamavar ★

Inspired by the Viceroy’s House in Delhi, this Mayfair restaurant cooks dishes from across India, with a grill and tandoor at its heart. Its sister restaurants in Dubai and Doha also hold a star each. Dinner: £130 (about $170) for the tasting menu. Lunch: £47 (about $60) (set lunch, 3 courses).

Quilon ★

Sriram Aylur’s restaurant near St James’s Park has cooked the food of India’s south-west coast, Kerala and Goa in particular, since 1999, and has held its star since 2008. Dinner: £135 (about $180) for the tasting menu. Lunch: £42 (about $55) (set lunch, 3 courses).

Trishna ★

A Marylebone dining room inspired by the coastal cooking of south-west India, with seafood at the centre of its tasting menus. It is the Sethi family’s first restaurant. Dinner: £90 (about $120) for the trishna tasting menu. Lunch: £80 (about $105) (lunch tasting menu, 4 courses).

Veeraswamy ★

Opened on Regent Street in 1926, Veeraswamy is London’s oldest Indian restaurant. Its landlord, the Crown Estate, has refused to renew the lease, and the restaurant is fighting the eviction in court, so check before you plan a special trip. Dinner: £95 (about $125) for the gourmet tasting menu. Lunch: £34 (about $45) (set lunch).

The cheapest way in

Lunch is the bargain. Amaya’s set lunch costs £32 (about $40), and Veeraswamy, Ambassadors Clubhouse, Quilon and Benares all serve set lunches for under £50. At dinner the least expensive tasting menu is Amaya’s at £75 (about $100); Gymkhana’s, at £155 (about $205), is the priciest. Outside the capital, Opheem in Birmingham holds two stars, making Aktar Islam’s restaurant the UK’s only two-star Indian restaurant outside London.
